Whether you are looking to partake in hunt tests or just want to work on training a great hunting partner, NFHRA is a great local Minnesota retriever club to come to. Together we can work on developing the skills a desirable hunting dog needs.
Training sessions and hunt tests will take place at Kelley Farm located 10 miles north of Hwy 36 on County Rd 15 (Manning Trail) in St Croix, MN. Other additional training sites may be announced to club members on our email list for special training nights.
NFHRA gets together for training on Monday and Wednesday nights beginning as early as April and through September. We have different groups get together on Monday or Wednesday nights depending on where your dog is at in its hunting ability. Bad weather cancellations are announced to club members via email the day of training.
Monday Training
Mondays are primarily for field trial training, but all dogs can benefit from longer marks and blinds. We ask that those who attend Monday training are able to perform handling at a more advanced level with their dogs. Training these days will run from 5:00pm to dusk. The field number location will be posted on our club’s Facebook page. Please see the map of Kelly Farms below to know the field number locations.
Wednesday Training
Wednesday night training is for all individuals at the junior, senior, or master level. When training begins, we split into two groups. Senior and master dogs in one group, then junior dogs in the other. This allows more specific training for each group. If you are unsure where you and your dog should start, reach out to our club and we can help you find what is right for you. Training these days will run from 5:00pm to dusk. The training location for Wednesdays is sent out via email to club members. Please see the map of Kelly Farms below to know the field number locations.

No, we are not training your dog for you. Rather this is an opportunity for you to come and join club members while we all train our dogs together and take advantage of training in larger groups with extra hands to help. This can be especially helpful in getting your dog used to the hunt test environment with all the noises and commotion that you otherwise would not have if you were to train on your own.
No, you do not need to participate in hunt tests in order to train with us. Many of our club members use training nights as a way to better train their personal hunting dogs for their own hunting needs.
